Changes To Regulation E Will Change How ATM and Debit Card Transactions Are Authorized and Approved |
|
On November 12, 2009 the Federal Reserve Board adopted a final rule amending Regulation E, which effects electronic bank transactions. One of the most significant changes that will affect our customers is an amendment that restricts a bank’s ability to authorized insufficient fund transactions on ATM & Debit Card transactions. (i.e.; If you have $19.00 in your checking account and you request a $20.00 withdrawal from your account by means of your ATM or Debit Card we will no longer be able to authorize the transaction and your withdrawal or purchase will be denied.)
In the past, banks were allowed to set up automatic parameters that would automatically approved certain insufficient fund ATM and Debit Card transactions. Unfortunately, as of the mandatory compliance date of July 1, 2010, we will no longer be allowed to extend the courtesy of automatically approved insufficient fund ATM and Debit Card Transactions. I apologize for any inconvenience the regulatory change may cause, and I encourage you to keep your check register as accurate and up to date as possible so you can avoid not having an insufficient fund ATM/Debit Card transaction denied.
