Banks Will No Longer Be Allowed to Sell U.S. Savings Bonds
savings20bondEffective December 31, 2011, the U.S. Treasury Department will be ending the sale of paper savings bonds through banks and financial institutions.  Consumers will also no longer be able to mail-in savings bond orders directly to the Treasury Department.  This means that anyone wanting to purchase a savings bond after December 31, 2011 will have to establish an account through the U.S. Treasury Department’s Treasury Direct program.   The Treasury estimates that ending the “paper sale” of savings bods will save U.S. taxpayers $70 million over the next five years.   Savings bonds will still have all the same features, and you can still purchase bonds for gift purposes, but you won’t have a paper bond to deliver to the recipient.  Any existing paper bonds you hold are still valid and will continue to earn interest for 30 years after they are issued.  Existing paper bonds may still be redeemed at local banks or financial institutions.  For more information or to establish an account you can go to www.treasurydirect.gov.

Update on TheEDGEBANK's Surcharge Free ATM Network
money passThe latest information from our two surcharge free ATM networks shows that TheEDGEBANK customers now have free access to over 20,000 ATM’s nationwide.   Being a small community bank, it’s hard for us to purchase and install a large number of proprietary ATM’s.  Therefore, five years ago we leveraged our resources by joining two surcharge free ATM networks.  These two memberships give our customers access to 18 free ATM’s in the Edwardsville/Glen Carbon market, plus over 20,000 ATM’s nationwide!  If you don’t already have a checking account with us, give us a call and we can tell you more about our Surcharge Free ATM networks and our free checking with interest.  Offering our customers two surcharge free ATM networks is just one more way we can give you “an EDGE on your checking.”   For more information you can visit our web site at www.theedgebank.com, and then click on the “Other Bank Services” tab.  From this page you can click on the “ATM Access” link so you can research our two surcharge free ATM networks and find the ATM’s that are most convenient for you.

news_atmGraphicOn November 12, 2009 the Federal Reserve Board adopted a final rule amending Regulation E, which effects electronic bank transactions. One of the most significant changes that will affect our customers is an amendment that restricts a bank’s ability to authorized insufficient fund transactions on ATM & Debit Card transactions. (i.e.; If you have $19.00 in your checking account and you request a $20.00 withdrawal from your account by means of your ATM or Debit Card we will no longer be able to authorize the transaction and your withdrawal or purchase will be denied.)
